Learning from the Best

Learning from the Best

Alain Picard is a well-known artist whose preferred medium is pastels. His expressive and minimalist style has fascinated me for quite some time. Last Sunday, I took part in a “paint-along” with him, and this is the result.
The painting measures approximately 25 x 20 cm, but is not for sale because the reference photo is copyrighted. A larger view is available in the gallery.

New in the Gallery: The Golden Heron

New in the Gallery: The Golden Heron

It’s always interesting to see how, when, and where inspiration strikes. In the case of this heron, it was a book cover that captivated me. Would I ever have thought to paint a heron otherwise? Probably not. But here he is now, the Golden One; graceful, serene, and, it seems to me, somewhat above it all.

The Golden Heron, 40 x 20 cm, CHF 450.–

Membership at the PGE

I am now a proud member of the PGE — the Pastel Guild of Europe. And I was upgraded from “Apprentice” to “Journeyer” status from the start.

The PGE was founded in 2009 by European pastel artists with the goal of strengthening connections and friendships among pastel artists from across Europe. The PGE currently has approximately 200 members from 38 countries. It regularly holds themed competitions for its members, which are judged by recognized professional artists. In addition, the PGE organizes painting workshops, most recently in Germany, Finland, and the Netherlands.

Through my membership in the PGE, I became automatically also a member of the IAPS, the International Association of Pastel Societies, which is particularly active in the U.S. and organizes exhibitions, among other activities.

Ta-da! The White Lily is done!

Ta-da! The White Lily is done!

It actually took some time to finish this complex painting. And never before have I studied the petals of a lily in such detail … 😉

The painting is 40 x 60 cm and its price is CHF 850.–.

The first painting after the show …

The first painting after the show …

… could be the beginning of a series in which I would like to dive into contrast and its dramatic effect.

The Right Moment

The Right Moment

I took the photo I used as a template for this picture many years ago – in the meantime it has been through three moves. And now the right moment had come …
